Member's Gallery: Bob Kenworthy

Bob Kenworthy is a graduate of Texas Tech University, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He has served as president of the Engineering Society of Tulsa, The Tulsa Engineering Foundation, the American Institute of Plant Engineers, and the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers.  In 1994, Bob was named Engineer of the Year by EST.  Bob is a Toastmasters Past District Governor for Oklahoma, and is also working on several ongoing projects with the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and the Central Oklahoma Health Turning Point committee.  He also currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Artists’ Guild.  Bob manages to merge the structured and detailed orientation and precision associated with an engineer with a creativity and vision that fill his artwork with style and imagination.

“It’s all about the color,” says Bob.  “Art should excite, inspire, and awaken the senses.  I tend to paint in bright, saturated colors and with sharp contrasts.  Maybe that’s just the way I rebel against the structure and routine of my engineering background.”

“It’s all about the lines,” he says.  “I think that my career as an engineer has helped me find my way as an artist with a different perspective on the world.  I also worked my way through college as a draftsman, which helps my drawing skills.”

“It’s all about the vision.”  Bob has been married for 23 years, and has four children.  “Raising four kids has taken away some of my sense of humor, but that has been replaced with a deep sense of irony.  Just kidding!  But I do think that raising kids helps you to value and appreciate things more fully.  I love to paint children, because in their eyes are hopes and dreams and the purest sense of wonderment.”

Bob works in oil, and will do customer commissions, such as individual or group portraits and landscapes.  For portraits, he typically likes to meet with the subject(s) to discuss ideas for poses and tableaus, take photographs, and to do skin tone verifications.  Most of the work will be completed using the photos, with minimal sitting time.  Please call Bob to discuss your proposed project, and let him do his magic.
